In Simcoe Grey this campaign has been exciting when compared to previous elections. I believe it has to do with the fact that Guergis is running as an independant, Leitch was parachuted into the riding, yes my Conservative friends regardless of what you think she was parachuted into the riding and if she really cared about Simcoe Grey she would have been a member of the riding association years ago and not just become a member after Guergis was kicked out.
Why do people vote Conservative? Why do they vote Liberal? Why do they vote NDP?, Why do they vote Green?, and Why do they vote period. Some say that people vote Conservative because their grandparents, did, and their parents did, so they must follow what's been done for generations. Some also say that you can have a monkey run under the Conservative banner in Simcoe Grey and the monkey would win.
Below I've listed what the 4 major parties stand for, and I also would like any feedback from readers as to why you vote, and why do you vote for who you vote for. It should be interesting to see why local Conservatives are voting for Leitch over Guergis when they both stand behind the Conservative Party platform.
If you go to the Conservative party website it states the following:
The Conservative Party will be guided in its constitutional framework and its policy basis by the following principles:
- A balance between fiscal accountability, progressive social policy and individual rights and responsibilities;
- Build a national coalition of people who share these beliefs and who reflect the regional, cultural and socio-economic diversity of Canada;
- Develop this coalition, embracing our differences and respecting our traditions, yet honoring a concept of Canada as the greater sum of strong parts;
- The Conservative Party will operate in a manner accountable and responsive to its members;
- A belief in loyalty to a sovereign and united Canada governed in accordance with the Constitution of Canada, the supremacy of democratic parliamentary institutions and the rule of law;
- A belief in the equality of all Canadians;
- A belief in the freedom of the individual, including freedom of speech, worship and assembly;
- A belief in our constitutional monarchy, the institutions of Parliament and the democratic process;
- A belief in the federal system of government as the best expression of the diversity of our country, and in the desirability of strong provincial and territorial governments;
- A belief that English and French have equality of status, and equal rights and privileges as to their use in all institutions of the Parliament and Government of Canada;
- A belief that the best guarantors of the prosperity and well-being of the people of Canada are:
- The freedom of individual Canadians to pursue their enlightened and legitimate self-interest within a competitive economy;
- The freedom of individual Canadians to enjoy the fruits of their labour to the greatest possible extent; and
- The right to own property;
- A belief that a responsible government must be fiscally prudent and should be limited to those responsibilities which cannot be discharged reasonably by the individual or others;
- A belief that it is the responsibility of individuals to provide for themselves, their families and their dependents, while recognizing that government must respond to those who require assistance and compassion;
- A belief that the purpose of Canada as a nation state and its government, guided by reflective and prudent leadership, is to create a climate wherein individual initiative is rewarded, excellence is pursued, security and privacy of the individual is provided and prosperity is guaranteed by a free competitive market economy;
- A belief that the quality of the environment is a vital part of our heritage to be protected by each generation for the next;
- A belief that Canada should accept its obligations among the nations of the world;

- A belief that all Canadians should have reasonable access to quality health care regardless of their ability to pay; and
- A belief that the greatest potential for achieving social and economic objectives is under a global trading regime that is free and fair.
The Liberal Party of Canada built an inclusive and prosperous Canada through a national vision that puts people first.

Canada’s legacy was forged under Liberal leadership.
Reformers like Louis-Joseph Papineau and William Lyon Mackenzie fought for the early democratic reforms at the heart of our system of responsible government. Wilfrid Laurier built the nation from West to East. Canada came of age under Mackenzie King’s industrial and wartime advances. Lester Pearson achieved healthcare for all and prestige for Canada on the world stage. Pierre Trudeau made Canada into a just society. Jean Chrétien strengthened Canada’s national unity. Paul Martin left Canada with the strongest economy in the world.

The next chapter in the Liberal Party of Canada’s history will unfold under the leadership of Michael Ignatieff. Inspired by the high standards set by our party’s past, Liberals are united and ready to achieve the next big national projects that will tie Canadians together.
Here's what the NDP stand for:
For too long Ottawa has focused on the priorities of the well-connected, not the priorities of your family. Together we’re going to fix that.
Today I’m releasing my affordable plan to get Ottawa working for your family - one practical step at a time.
The New Democrat plan is focused on improving your health services, rewarding the job creators, strengthening your pension, and making your life a little more affordable.
These are the priorities I’ve been fighting for my whole life. And these are my commitments to you in this election.
These commitments are fully costed – right from the first year. We won’t wait to lift all seniors out of poverty. We won’t wait to start hiring more doctors and nurses. We will act starting now.
I promise you this: the morning after the election, I will get down to work on your practical key priorities. As Prime Minister, I will work with others to get Ottawa working for you. And I will deliver results in the first 100 days. You can hold me to it.
You know where I stand. After May 2, I will deliver for you. And I won’t stop until the job’s done.
Here's what the Greens Stand for:
It’s time. Vote Green.
In 2008, nearly one million Canadians voted Green. Nearly one million Canadians voted for a better future, for a positive vision of Canada.
We are not a one-issue party.
The Green Party is the only party in Canada with a full and comprehensive vision for our future available every day. We do not wait until elections to unveil what we believe in. Vision Green is on our website, available 365 days a year, every year.
The Green Party is the only opposition party to have tabled our deficit cutting plan with the Parliamentary Budget Office, to ensure we did our homework and our numbers will hold.
We are more than you think.
You are in for a nice surprise. Read our platform and find that voice for sensible, smart politics that you have been longing to hear.
If you are tired of simply voting against things, if you want something you can vote for, read this platform.
If you are looking for a serious, realistic and sensible option to the old line parties and old school politics, read this platform.
If you are looking for an economic, social and environmental vision for Canada that isn’t just focused on winning the next election, read this platform.
Canadians have disengaged from their own democracy because election after election we have been offered negative politicking in place of a real vision for our country. There is an alternative.
In this platform you will find a vision for a modern, smart economy that reduces the deficit, creates new jobs that won’t be gone tomorrow, and doesn’t rely on generating pollution to generate energy. We see a future Canada with vibrant, well-educated and motivated citizens, living in healthy communities, eating safe and healthy food, and enjoying a life-giving, healthy natural world.
In this platform you will find a renewal of Canadian democracy. You will find a return to dignity and respect in politics. You will find reforms to put power back where it belongs – in your hands.
If you think it’s time to turn over a new leaf in Canada, turn the page and get inspired.
Interesting.
