As week two comes to an end, the signs just keep popping up across the riding. As of Friday April 8th here are the current standings (My view of course). Road signs only, not lawn signs as gas is way too much money these days, but that's for another posting.
1.) NeoCon
2.) Liberal
3.) ICon
4.) The good doctor - Not the NeoCon one
5.) NDP
6.) Greens
7.) Action party guy..Actually I've not seen any of his signs up yet.
I've noticed in my travels that the Leitch Camp has a bad habit of placing 2 signs in between the Liberal Candidate, Alex Smardenka's sign, so you can't see Smardenka's sign. Leitch has also done this to Guergis as well. I wonder if this is a violation of Elections Canada's rules?
Now onto "other things"....
While I give credit to anyone who decides to throw their hat into the ring and run for office, I have an issue with someone like Dr. Leitch the "True Conservative candidate". During the Rogers debate she made a statement that she's one 1 of 36 doctors across Canada who's a specialist in her field. For those of you who don't know Dr. Leitch is a Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon and works out of Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.
When asked the question by a caller as to why would she give up her medical career helping kids in need to go into politics. Her response was that she'll still be able to work part-time helping out kids in need, and still be an MP if elected. I have a real problem with anybody who wants to be elected to public office, and only wants to work part-time as that would be the case with her. You can't be a full-time MP, and a part-time doctor. Another issue is the fact that Leitch is a parachute candidate regardless of what my Conservative friends say about this. She only purchased her home in Creemore a year ago just in case you were wondering.
When you cast your vote in this election take a moment to think about the issues, the party leaders, and if you want your MP to work full-time or part-time for you in Ottawa.
Until next time!
Steve c'mon Kellie moved into her house a 2 years ago, because it was being built on the property she had purchased in 2005. And I think more people were offended with the comment about not wanting their child being operated on by a part-time surgeon. Also HG curses Harper in one sentence and the next she praises and supports the government?! She is saying and doing (ie copying signs) anything to get re-elected.
ReplyDeleteFirst off she moved into her house last year when the word was given that Guergis would not be allowed to run as a Harper Conservative. Leitch is a parachute candidate, and Chris and Paul had no chance at winning the nomination. Trust me I'm not defending Guergis, but campaigns can be expensive, and why should she not be allowed to use her old signs, provided that she covered up any "Conservative Party" logos. I agree with you that Guergis should not in one sentence say this and that about Harper, and then go ahead and vote with the Conservatives. As a voter I would not want a two-faced person being my MP. Finally Leitch is only 1 of 36 doctors in Canada that do what they do, and she should stay as a full-time doctor, as our kids need someone like her helping them more than they need her in Ottawa as one small voice out of 307 other MP's.
ReplyDeleteRegarding election signs: it is not the Conservative's intention to eclipse the bright red, instantly recognizable LIBERAL signs. It is to clear up any misunderstanding as to who is running as the CONSERVATIVE candidate in Simcoe-Grey. Ms. Guergis is deliberately trying to mislead voters by using (and re-using) Conservative colours. The reality, justly or unjustly, is that she is an INDEPENDENT, period - INDEPENDENT being a noun in this case, not just an adjective stencilled in front of CONSERVATIVE on her signs. The fact that she still feels entitled to use the Conservative "brand" and to use signs and posts that, arguably, were not her's to use, speaks loudly of her over-inflated ego and sense of entitlement.
ReplyDeleteAgain not to defend Guergis, but she's marketing herself as an independant Conservative. The previous signs were brought and paid for my her previous election campaigns, and she's entitled to use them without the Harper Conservative logo. If she or anybody else wants to use the color blue on their signs it's their choice as last time I checked we still live in a free country.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the placing of the Leitch signs with one in front and one behind the Smardenka signs, the signs in question and their were about a dozen of them that I noticed we so close that unless you were passing them on the road you would not have seen the Smardenka sign. If you want to play fair that great, but this is just another example of Conservatives not playing by the rules and their are rules in regards to the placement of election signs.
However I've noticed that they have been all moved so at least someone in the Leitch camp realized that they were breaking election rules and moved them.
Not to defend anyone, but a lot of volunteers are putting up the signs and may not be aware of all these "rules" about the correct placement of signs.
ReplyDeleteI know that not everyone is aware of the correct placement of signs. At least the issue was corrected.
ReplyDeleteReally, Steve? "First off she moved into her house last year when the word was given that Guergis would not be allowed to run as a Harper Conservative." I seem to remember standing on Kellie's deck at her first Canada Day party,in July of 2006.
ReplyDeleteI also remember having a conversation with your pet Helena at that very same party. I don't recall you being there however. At the time of that party in July, 2006, Kellie was maintaining that house as her principal residence. Helena, on the other hand, has never owned property in the Riding, instead choosing to camp out at daddy's house in Angus, where she resides to this day with her unemployed husband. As for sign placement, you may have a point there. It should be known though, that Helena's signs were kept under lock and key by the Riding EDA, who were paying storage fees. Shortly before the election, there was a breakin at the storage facility, and all the signs, along with a computer containing the EDA Electoral records, were stolen. Any Conservative Board member can confirm this. Interesting that when the writ was dropped, Helena's signs mysteriously appeared all over the Riding. Not making any accusations, just explaining the timeline of events. Food for thought anyway
I wish people would read what they write before posting a comment. You say that "Leitch moved into her house last year when the word was given that Guergis would not be allowed to run as a Harper Conservative" in the next sentence you say that "Kellie was maintaining that house as her principal residence". So what is it was the house back in 2006 her principal residence, or was it just as of last year when she knew Guergis was booted from the party?
ReplyDeleteKind of a long drive to Sick Kids hospital from Creemore everyday since 2006 don't you think! Also why did she seek privilages at the Collingwood hospital just last year and not back in 2006 when her house in Creemore was her principal residence??
In regards to Guergis being my pet, if you know anything about me I'm NOT a Conservative supporter, never have been and never will be. Finally the break-in does sound fishy, and I'm sure the police were called and they have launched a full investigation.
Anyway onwards and upwards I always say..
