Local Liberals have first candidate.

The local Federal Liberals have their first candidate to seek the nomination to replace Andrea Matrosovs. Mr. Alex Smardenka who, along with his wife Sandy own the Boston Pizza locations in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. They also own the Swiss Chalet location in Wasaga Beach.

Mr. Smardenka is the husband to former Wasaga Beach Deputy Mayor candidate, Sandy Smardenka.
The Smardenka family are active supporters in both the Wasaga and Collingwood communities devoting hours of their free time to worthwhile causes. Both Alex and Sandy recently met with the Simcoe-Grey Liberal nomination committee which consists of Riding President Alison Jacks, CFO Leo Losereit, and Secretary Mark Redmond. Mr. Losereit a former Provincial candidate for the NDP in the 1990 election in our riding coming in second to Jim Wilson, and Mr. Redmond who ran for the Provincial Liberals in the 2003 election also coming in second to Jim Wilson. Mr. Losereit is also the former campaign manager for Andrea Matrosovs in the 2008 Federal election.

At this time on other candidate seeking the nomination has come forward, however the word on the street is that Mr. Losereit might also seek the nomination. The nomination meeting will be scheduled right after the Conservatives have their meeting which is slated for February 24th, 2011.

The local Green Party is also seeking a new candidate as their previous candidate, Mr. Stuart Starbuck resigned to run in the October municipal elections. The NDP will be recycling Katy Austin who's run in several Federal and Provincial elections for the NDP party in our riding.

As they say let the race begin!

Until next time.
