With all the attention on the Federal Election, I think it's time that I focus on what's happening in my own town. The 2011 budget was presented at a public meeting at council on April 12th, 2011. Some of the highlights that were voted down by council with Patterson voting against them included additional Firefighters, additional part-time staff, more investments in tourism, and the list goes on and on. I for one think that we need additional Firefighters given the fact that we are building another fire station in town.
Patterson did vote to give $ 15,000 for the Collingwood Airport, which I'm against as the only area that benefits from the Airport is the Town of the Blue Mountains who don't give a cent towards the operating costs of the airport.
When I posted on this blog, the e-mail I received from the people over at Aware Simcoe, I received several e-mails, and with the premission of the writer here's one of the e-mails I received:
Interesting article on your blog today from the AWARE SIMCOE Files. But then again, after the "Leitch Affair", when Wasaga's
tiny perfect Mayor adamantly refuted authorizing his signature on a letter of support, until e-mails surfaced proving otherwise,
when his rather lame objection became...well, gee, I maybe forgot to ask for the chance to vet the contents first...what could one
really expect when it came to mixing partisan politics with Simcoe County Council?
His current ego trip is regettably reflecting rather poorly on his constituents who will be required to work with whichever government
is elected either Federally or Provincially. Ooooops!
In the meantime, who is tending the farm at home while he is off adding pins to his lapel?
We haven't really been having a banner few months here locally while "tiny perfect" has been flexing his pecs at Queens Park
and in the nation's capital have we?
Meridian Credit Union left town to "consolidate" their interests in Collingwood.
Giant Tiger have announced they will also be gone in August to "consolidate" their their interests in Collingwood.
Our local newspaper quietly slinked out of town to their headquarters...in Collingwood.
And now our radio station is doing the same. Of course they are telling us nothing will change but our address, and again
ooops, but maybe the taxes from our new location will be going to Collingwood, but then, this is only a business decision.
Has anybody else noticed the subtle difference in their station promos lately? Change Wasaga Beach for South Georgian Bay as
we quietly settle into our new home to take on Corus head on.
This must all be just fine with "tiny perfect" and his colleagues as I haven't heard a word of protest yet. Then again, when I
really think about it, just because the town is by far the biggest advertser in the Wasaga Sun, why would they want to print
anything negative? "Tiny perfect" has always alluded to his close connection to his home town of Collingwood, so what's
a local radio station here or there anyway?
In the meantime, what in the world is our EDO and her department doing while all this is happening? Haven't seen a word.
Must be just fine with it. Too busy discouraging those nasty tourism friendly special events that draw so many people and
so many dollars, think Wakestock, that relocated to where....oh yes, Collingwood. (Home of all my friends and relatives).
Much better to just pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into subsidizing the practises of some of the town's wealthiest
professionals who probably threatened to move their practises to...where else...if we didn't pay through the nose to keep
them here. Oh well.
Perhaps I'm reading it all wrong, but then again, perhaps a few points to ponder.
Another point that the writer expressed is the fact that Patterson during the election received the most donations from developers and builders when compared to all of the other candidates.
Bet some of his good friends may not be aware that amongst the number of developers
who financed his campaign was the principal behind the proposal to build the residential towers on the east side of
Sunnidale Road coming in to town. Bet also that would go down well with new Councillor Bercovitch who campaigned
against this development. Oh well.
Oh well is right, and given Patterson's recent actions one does have to wonder if he really does care about Wasaga Beach, or if he just cares for himself.
Until next time!
