Finally the Liberals have a candidate for the Provincial election, so now the major parties are all ready to go.
For the PC's we have long serving MPP, Jim Wilson
For the Greens we have their party leader, Mike Schreiner
For the Liberals they have the Riding President from Barrie, Donna Kenwell
For the NDP they have David Matthews.
What's interesting is that all 4 of these candidates are from the north end of the riding. Wilson lives in Wasaga Beach, Schreiner has a house in Duntroon, Kenwell lives in Elmvale, and Matthews also lives in Wasaga Beach. It must be something in the air that makes people living in Wasaga Beach run for public office. Anyway this campaign will be one of interest to people who follow politics.
Jim Wilson has held onto this riding for the PC party since 1990, and for the first time he's going up against the leader of a political party with that being Mike Schreiner of the Green Party. Watching Schreiner on Focus Ontario the other night, John Tory gave some free advice to Schreiner, and that being for him to stay in the riding during the campaign and campaign like crazy if he wants to have a shot at knocking Wilson off.
We all know how the debates will play out. Wilson will attack the Liberals, the Liberals will attack the record of Mike Harris, the NDP will try and attack both the Liberals and the PC's. The Greens will focus on the needs of rural Ontario and how they will make life better for our hard working farmers, and small communites that make up Simcoe Grey.
Unlike the past Federal election where it was known before it started that the Conservatives would win this riding hands down, it's not a shoe in for Wilson. His competition is not the from the Liberals or NDP, but from the Greens.
Until next time!
